Introduction
At Pendraig Siberians “Naturally Reared, Naturally Raised, Naturally Superior” is more than just a slogan. It is a way of life. Our cats are naturally reared on a 100% all natural, holistic and raw supplemented diet & given only the vaccinations required by law. Any health problems, parasites or illnesses are dealt with using nutrition, herbs, homeopathy or other natural treatment. We do not use commercial flea products, de-wormers or common pet foods. We put a great deal of effort and time into researching the correct diet for our cats and assuring the absolute best health possible by not exposing them to harmful chemicals or toxins. This natural rearing model insures that our cats are the healthiest you will find anywhere and will ultimately have increased longevity over other lines as well as superior health for their entire lives.
As you can imagine, we want you as the new owner of a Pendraig cat or kitten to enjoy the benefits of this Naturally Superior way of life. To that end we have developed these guidelines for our Diet and Care Requirements. We request that any prospective owners make themselves acquainted with our naturally rearing model. We are more than happy to discuss this with you one on one, answer any questions, and help you understand exactly how and why we raise our animals this way. Before contacting us, however, be sure to read our Pet Health Page which has many articles and links to animal health care issues. Specifically pay attention to the resources we have listed at the end of this article. The Contract you sign when purchasing a Pendraig Siberian will be the final authority as to your health guarantee. If you would like to try your hand at the Ideal or Advanced diets be sure to tell us and we will revise the contract.
NOTE: This document is for informational purposes only and does not replace the contract you will sign with the Seller upon purchase of your Pendraig Siberian Cat. In all cases the contract should be referred to and considered the primary and only source for the specifics of all guarantees and responsibilities. The only exception is the details of our diet and care program which and by signing this document you agree that you have read and understood our diet and care plans and will follow the plan you selected in your contract.
Please let us know which diet you prefer. If you don’t follow our advice than only the most basic health guarantee is provided as listed in the contract agreement.
Your kitten was raised holistically but not fed an exclusive raw diet. She/he was raised on a combination of dry and canned grain free foods and raw based on our recipe below. We do this so that the kittens will be accustomed to eating a variety of foods and will acclimate better to their forever homes.
Supplements as listed below in BOLD and UNDERLINED are mandatory and failure to provide them daily will void the health guarantee.
Raw Diet Benefits
- Overall Improved Health – Felines are obligate carnivores and not only do they not NEED massive amounts of carbohydrates but the presence of any, much less a diet made up mostly of, grains and rice can be detrimental to their health. Diabetes and renal failure are both connected to high carbohydrate intake. You can expect your cat to live a very long and healthy life on our raw and natural diet.
- Improved Temperament – Our cats are happier. They enjoy their food, they bond with us as their caretakers when fed, and because they are at their peak health and vitality they are at their happiest as well.
- Less shedding – My cats shed about 75% less.
- Shiny & Glossy Coats – the coats are extremely shiny and glossy and super soft. When we do brush it is very easy to do with no matting (which is rare for Siberians anyway) and enjoyable.
- Less litter box odor – their feces are very dry and turn to chalk pretty quickly. Though it does still smell it isn’t noticeable unless you are very close by which isn’t what we experienced before. On premium kibble, and worse on canned foods, we knew if a cat used the litter box from any room in our house. Now we don’t unless we hear them moving the litter around. The urine also smells less because it isn’t cleaning out massive amounts of toxins.
- Less waste – your litter box will go longer between cleanings and scooping because their waste is much more compact. They also drink a lot less water trying to combat the dehydration effects and the toxins in commercial kibbles and canned food.
- Less Fur-balls –because they shed less they ingest a lot less fur. What hair doesn’t get moved through their digestive track is minimal and by supplying cat grass you can virtually eliminate the gagging and hacking of fur-balls. Cat grass encourages regurgitation.
- Nicer breath – Our cats no longer suffer from bad breath. It isn’t minty fresh but it no longer smells terrible. This is probably because there are no carbohydrate food particles rotting in their teeth or maybe because the level of good bacteria is keeping the smell down. Either way we enjoy the benefits.
- Extremely Healthy and Clean Teeth and Gums – because their diet isn’t high in carbohydrates or toxins their body can eliminate bad bacteria in the mouth and thus there is less plaque and tarter build up. Their gums are also a lot healthier because of the probiotics in their food helping to maintain the balance of good and bad bacteria. Their saliva is less acidic as they no longer need to digest the unnatural grains in their diet which produces less corrosion on the teeth. The teeth and gums are better nourished because the grains aren’t depleting their body of nutrients. A cat raised on this diet should never need veterinary oral care.
- Your Cat Feels Loved – Because you expend so much time and energy making their food your cats know how much you love them. You are their caregiver, food provider and ultimate authority. Your love goes into each bowl of food to be seen in the eyes of your furry companion.
